MOHAMED A. G. BAKHIT holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Bayreuth (Germany). The title of his 2015 thesis is: Identity and Lifestyles Construction in Multi-Ethnic Shantytowns: A Case Study of Al-Baraka Community in Khartoum, Sudan. Since 2010 he has been a lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at the University of Khartoum, where he is today Head Department and Associated Professor. His main research interests are identity change, urbanization, minority groups, and citizenship.
MUNZOUL A.M. ASSAL holds a PhD in Anthropology from Bergen University (Norway). The title of his 2004 thesis is: Sticky Labels or Rich Ambiguities? Diaspora and Challenges of Homemaking for Somalis and Sudanese in Norway. He is Professor at the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology and Deputy Director of the Peace Research Institute at the University of Khartoum. Since 2009, he is the coordinator for the Sudanese partner of the Scientific Agreement between the University of Khartoum and University Paris 8. His research focuses on refugees, IDPs, humanitarianism and citizenship.

Barbara Casciarri holds a PhD in Ethnology and Social Anthropology from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris (France). She did fieldwork on economic and political anthropology in Sudan (1989-2016) among Arabic-speaking pastoralists and in a working-class neighbourhood of Khartoum (Deim), and in Morocco (2000-2006) on the relationship between Berber-speaking nomads and Arabic-speaking farmers. She was the coordinator of CEDEJ Khartoum between 2006 and 2009. Since 2004, she has been Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology, University Paris 8 (France) and researcher at the LAVUE-UMR 7218. She has been scientific coordinator of two ANR Projects in Sudan: WAMAKHAIR (2008-2012) and ANDROMAQUE (2011-2014). Since 2009, she has been responsible for the scientific agreement between the Faculty of Economic and Social Studies, University of Khartoum, and Paris 8 University.

Open Days of French-Sudanese scientific cooperation in Social Sciences Training and Research (University Paris 8, University of Khartoum, CEDEJ) (28th February-1st March 2018, Khartoum)

The Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2009 between the University Paris 8 (France) and the University of Khartoum (Sudan) has been recently renewed for the second time. During this period, French and Sudanese teachers, researchers and students from both universities had actively collaborated through various scientific exchanges matching research and training in Social Sciences studies on contemporary Sudan, with the support and participation of CEDEJ-Khartoum, and thanks to the central role played by the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology (Faculty of Economic and Social Studies). Starting in 2018 the tenth year of our partnership, we invite you to join the meetings organized in Khartoum to present the results of this international academic cooperation and to discuss about its future development.
