  • Sudan RevolutionUnderstand the political transition in Sudan

In December 2018, the social uprising in Sudan gained unprecedented proportions, leading to the fall of President Omar al-Bashir on April 11 2019, after 30 years of mandate. This event lead to political and social transformations at different scales of society, in different socio-economic contexts and at different rhythms.

In this changing socio-political context, CEDEJ Khartoum supports 15 field research projects to study the Sudanese revolution and the political transition in the country. These projects are rooted in different disciplinary approaches: political science, anthropology, law, geography, sociology and the researchers associated with CEDEJ Khartoum benefit from their knowledge of the country to grasp the mobilizations and dynamics of the political transition. The program articulates into two major themes: (1) the study of social movements that led to the revolutionary situation of 2019-2020; (2) the ongoing political, economic and social reconfigurations in post-revolutionary Sudan.
