CEDEJ general seminar: “Leni’s Sudanese adventures”
The Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology- Faculty of Economic and Social Studies in collaboration with CEDEJ are inviting you to attend our postgraduate seminar presented by Prof. Kurt Beck. The presentation is entitled: “Leni’s Sudanese adventures”.
In this seminar, Prof. Kurt – Professor of Anthropology, University of Bayreuth – will talk about an upcoming project which is about the heritage of the late photographer Leni Riefenstahl. Whatever else she is known for, Leni Riefenstahl has become in/famous for her Nuba photography from the 1960s and the 1970s. After she died, her photographic estate eventually went to the Prussian Foundation for Cultural Heritage with the condition attached that it would be exhibited.
Kurt will address the following questions: What is her photography about? And what are the controversies surrounding her work? How can it possibly be exhibited, given its controversial nature? And which are the open societal questions – if not taboos – an exhibition might have to face?
Date: Wednesday 8th March , 12-2 pm
Location: UofK Campus, department of Sociology and Social Anthropology , postgraduate room.
