CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Fall Semester 2025 RESEARCH GRANTS – CEDEJ KHARTOUM

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Fall Semester 2025 RESEARCH GRANTS – CEDEJ KHARTOUM

Deadline to submit the proposal: 25th August 2025

The French Centre for Economic, Law and Social Studies in Sudan (CEDEJ Khartoum), whose activities are temporarily coordinated from Cairo, is launching a call for four Research grants for graduate students (PhD and Master students) and researchers who conduct research in the social sciences and humanities on Sudan and Sudanese diaspora.
These grants are awarded to Sudanese researchers who are based in Sudan or in Egypt or planning to do empirical field/research stay in Egypt. Applicants who currently do not have a scholarship with CEDEJ Khartoum will be given priority.

What is expected from the grantee?

By mid-December 2025: Blog piece from 1000 to 1500 words and presentation of the research at a CEDEJ Khartoum seminar.

Grant Information

The amount of the grant is set at 1000 euros. The grant beneficiary will receive 50% of the grant upon signing the grant contract. He will receive the remaining payment when the final report is submitted to the CEDEJ Khartoum coordinator – Marie BASSI – and after validation by the scientific committee. Grantees will become Associated researchers at CEDEJ Khartoum for one year. Grants offered are not subject to taxes, and do not include open rights to social security. They are awarded as contributions towards actual research costs.

How to apply? (before the 25th of August 2025)

We encourage submission and publication in English, but it is possible to submit a proposal in French. Interested applicants will send an email to direction@cedejkhartoum.com, taysirelhadi@hotmail.com and florian.bonnefoi@gmail.com with the following documents:

– a complete CV (1 page maximum)

– a research proposal (1 page maximum) indicating the research question, the context, the methodology, the feasibility.

The application will be examined by a selection committee late August-early September 2025 which will consider scientific interest, relevance of the project, and the applicant’s ability to implement it.
